The Apple iPad and Kindle Fire HD are two different tablets designed to woo two market segments. While the current Apple iPad does everything a user would need, the Kindle Fire HD focuses much more on media consumption. Unfortunately, not everyone can afford to spend lavishly on both of these tablets to get the best of both worlds in technology. Ultimately, the time comes when you have to choose between the two tablets, and comparing them side-by-side can play an important role in your decision on which tablet you ultimately purchase.
In this article, we’ll make a brief comparison between the two main competitors in the market today, The Apple iPad and Amazon Kindle Fire HD. Let’s take a look at some key comparison notes for better insight of the two.
Amazon took a great jump by introducing an 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD to compete with the iPad featuring 9.7 inch screen size. In terms of screen and resolution, iPad features 2,048X1,536 resolution, while the Kindle sports 1,920X1,200-pixel screen, which is comparatively low vs. the iPad, but the Kindle’s resolution definitely quite high in this price range. iPad also supports retina display which is absent in the Kindle Fire HD. However, the pixel density is almost identical with 254 ppi for Kindle and 264 ppi for iPad. Thus, it can be said that the text and pictures are going to look pretty sharp on both the tablets.
The iPad features a 5-megapixel rear camera that is capable of recording 1080p video, while the Kindle Fire HD has completely eliminated the camera function. However, the good part is that Kindle sports a front-facing HD camera which is high in quality in comparison to iPad’s VGA. Now, this is something you will be interested in if you are using your tablet to make video calls. Amazon has also climbed another step by providing Wi-Fi capabilities with two antennas as compared to single antenna by Apple. It also features 2.4-GHz and 5-GHz bands, which iPad also has.
Other features such as CPU power, processors, and graphics capabilities are tough to compare, as both the tablets support cutting edge quality processors for much improved performance as compared to their predecessors.
Additionally, the Amazon Kindle Fire HD features all new X-Ray function that let the users to get details of the actors in a movie they are viewing by simply tapping on the screen. Also, Amazon’s parental control system FaceTime is a great way to create child-specific profiles for limited use. The iPad does not have anything that compares well with these two functions. While the iPad does have some parental control capability, it is not integrated like Amazon’s Facetime app is.
Kindle Fire HD is available at varying prices at Amazon, depending on which options and storage capacity you select. Meanwhile the latest Apple iPad can be bought for a higher price of $499. Many people think that Kindle HD is just another cheaper alternative to iPad, but this isn’t the best way to see it. The features and functions incorporated by Amazon in this tablet are definitely more than just a cheap alternative.
Basically, your choice comes down to what you plan to use your tablet for. If you want to be able to video and take pictures, then the iPad is likely the better option. However, if you are interested in high quality video calls, good parental controls, and X-Ray features, then you may be better off with the Kindle Fire HD from Amazon.
