New iPhone 5S (or 6) rumors have been all over the internet, but until it has an official release date, none can be confirmed with 100% certainty. Fortunately for us, information was released this past weekend stating that the new iPhone 5S will likely be announced (or released) on September 10th, probably along with its slightly less expensive counterpart, rumored to be the iPhone 5C, which will contain a plastic back. Originally, many of us were expecting the iPhone 6 but currently it appears as though the iPhone 6 will not be released until 2014.
The Apple iPhone 5 is the current model of iPhone and will likely benefit from the release of any new model(s). Most likely, vendors will slash prices and offer incentives or deals to encourage customers to go with a slightly older (but still amazing) model of iPhone. The current iPhone 5, along with use of the gadget, tips and tricks, is profiled in a brand new iPhone 5 user manual guide by author Shelby Johnson (pictured).
9/10 Updates: Apple’s press event is being covered via a live stream here at CNET.com
-The company has announced the new iOS 7 update will arrive on Sept. 18, 2013.
9/3 Update: Apple has sent out invites to the media for a Sept. 10 press event. The event will be held at Apple’s Town Hall building with a start time of 10 a.m. PST or 1 p.m. EST on Tuesday, Sept. 10, with the company expected to announce the new iPhone 5S and the low-cost iPhone 5C, as well as release the new operating system for iPhones and iPads known as iOS 7.
With a new Apple iPhone comes new iPhone features. One of the most significant rumors out there is that the new iPhone 5S will have a fingerprint scanner. This has been among the rumor mill since Apple acquired Authentec which specializes in such technology. Some experts believe that Apple will wait until the release of the iPhone 6 before implementing the technology. However, if it is implemented on the new iPhone it will likely be embedded into the display itself or be placed directly on the “Home” button using sapphire glass which will drive up the price which most estimate at costing between $199 and $499 depending upon the gigabytes.
It is fairly commonly agreed upon that the new iPhones 5S and 5C will both run on iOS 7 which is a brand new interface with a variety of features including better protection for theft or lost phones, increased ease of use when sharing content, a brand new look to Safari, and more. The new operating system is also expected to better improve push notifications, multi-tasking while utilizing the features, and improved standard applications such as the weather app. One of the most anticipated features, though, is the ability to lock an iPhone remotely which will appear with a message that the phone has been lost and who to contact to return it.
Of course the upcoming new iOS 7 mobile operating system will add a lot of substance not only to the new iPhone, but also to the current model, the iPhone 5, as well as iPad Mini, iPads, and at least a few iPod Touch models.
When it comes to the iPhone 6, the rumor mill has certainly been operating in full force. Some of the rumors, however, seem a bit unrealistic. For instance, some are expecting that the screen will actually wrap all the way around the device but this seems rather strange considering users would not be able to put a case on it. Slightly more realistic rumors include a Retina 2 Display for better graphics, a feature that will allow users to adjust their car settings from their phone, and a variety of new materials that may be used to construct the phone.
So it appears we should have more answers soon. Either way, many people have their calendars marked for September 10th, 2013, which is when some sort of big announcement is rumored to happen. Stay tuned as we look forward to the big reveal of the newest Apple iPhone model, and of course all of the features, price, specs and release date info to follow!
