The eagerly awaited Apple announcement is going on. So far, Apple has unveiled the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C at this event. These phones were both expected as rumors grew in the weeks leading up to this event. They’ll now take over as the next generation in Apple’s lineup since the iPhone 5 was released late in 2012.
One of the biggest rumors about iPhone fingerprint security turned out to be true. The new iPhone 5S comes with a Home button called Touch ID. Apple hopes to help cut down on iPhone theft with this new fingerprint security. This amazing new piece of technology can learn multiple fingerprints, which is helpful for households where users may share a phone. Amazingly, the phone does not have to be oriented a certain way to read a fingerprint either, which should make it fairly easy to use.
The iPhone 5S also has a new color — gold. It comes in gray and white as well. Black is no longer an option. The phone will have an improved camera and an A7 processor. The forward facing camera has also been improved on this version. The basic 16 GB iPhone 5S will cost $199 with contract. The cost is $299 for the 32GB, and $399 for the 64GB.
The “unapologetically plastic” iPhone 5C starts at just $99 for the 16 GB model, and it raises to $199 for the 32 GB model. The phone comes in five shiny new colors, and is an upgrade over the iPhone 5, which will be discontinued.
So far there have been no major surprises at the Apple announcement, but it is not over. Multiple sources covered the live Apple announcement from Cupertino earlier, including CNET.com. The official Apple iPhone 5S trailer video can be seen right below.
